REPORTS TO: Principal CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time APPROVED DATE:
5/3/2022 PAY RANGE: $60,000 - $74,000 JOB SUMMARY: The ideal Dean
of Climate and Culture will have knowledge of and/or experience
with, restorative justice, collaborative problem solving,
responsive classroom, anti-bias education and culturally responsive
teaching. The Dean of Climate and Culture will be responsible for
ensuring that SER Learning Academy and SER YouthBuild Learning
Academy establish and maintain a positive culture of behavior and
learning by supporting teachers with academic interventions,
behavior management and student discipline. The Dean of Climate and
Culture will work with the Principal to establish a professional
rapport with students, staff, and families and will meet with
parents regularly regarding student academic, discipline and
behavior issues. They will maintain a safe, orderly environment
that encourages students to excel academically, take responsibility
for their behavior, remain engaged in daily classes and develop
high moral standards. ABOUT SER LEARNING ACADEMY: SYLA is an
alternative high school for youth ages 16-21. Its model combines
classroom instruction by a certified teacher with enabling students
to learn a trade while in school, providing learners with the
knowledge, skills, and self-discipline necessary to become

young people---s lives. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.
Provide counseling, consultation, coordination, and student
appraisal to meet the academic needs of students related to
graduation plans, college entrance, scholarships, and employment or
post-secondary planning; Serve as a resource for parents on
problems affecting the orderly educational development, physical
development, and character development of students. 2. Communicate
daily with students, parents, and teachers regarding attendance and
discipline matters; ensure that students are contacted daily by the
Administrative Assistant to improve attendance and engagement
outcomes. 3. Monitor daily student attendance and administer
SLA/SYLA attendance policies; Monitor the accurate compilation of
daily attendance reports and records. Research, develop and
implement programs to improve student attendance and discipline. 4.
Work cooperatively with principal and staff. Provide direction for
administrative assistants and tutors in fulfillment of department
goals and objectives. 5. Coordinate and plan student activities as
needed. Initiate and support programs that facilitate an
appropriate climate for learning and promotion of virtue. 6.
Identify, plan, and implement strategies to address barriers to
learning including behavior issues and social adjustment. 7.
Maintain behavioral logs for each student, keeping comprehensive
documentation of contacts, actions, and interventions. 8. Hold
monthly school assemblies either collaboratively or at each campus.
9. Oversee MTTS system at each campus. 10. Assist the Principal in
the preparation of county, state, and federal reports related to
attendance and discipline. 11. Oversees the administration of all
State and local assessments. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND ATTRIBUTES

and classroom management expertise and ability to articulate
effectively. 3. Extraordinary interpersonal skills and desire to
work as a team player with teachers and staff; Ability to support
the professional growth of others. 4. Experience using data and
data systems to make instructional decisions and ability to coach
others in the use of data to ensure instructional delivery meets
the needs of all learners. 5. Ability to collaborate and create
relationships with parents and community members. 6. Understanding
of the need for and willingness to go above and beyond to support
student achievement in traditionally under-served communities. 7.
Meticulous organizational ability to set priorities, organize
workload, handle multiple responsibilities with a demonstrated
ability to work under pressure to meet critical deadlines. 8.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with
all stakeholders. Ability to cooperate with administrators and
teachers in identifying students with special abilities and in
providing appropriate classroom support. Ability to provide crisis
counseling and consultation to students. Able to keep confidential
the counseling relationship and information except when disclosure
is required by law and when a student's condition requires
intervention. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversees day-to-day
school operations under the direction of the Principal. Supervises
the Administrative Assistants at both campuses. JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master---s Degree in Education with a Michigan Teaching
Certification. 2. 5 years minimal experience in an urban learning
environment working with high-risk youth. 3. Excellent written and
verbal communications skills. Bilingual language skills in
English/Spanish (written/verbal) preferred. 4. Proficiency in
Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access)
and online sourcing tools with functional knowledge of internet use
for search platforms. 5. Ability to interact with students, parents
and staff in a positive and productive manner. Strong cultural
competence to effectively educate and manage students from varying
backgrounds and socio-economic levels. Understanding of the nuances
of urban school environments. Experience in implementing
school-wide positive behavioral interventions (such as the Response
to Intervention model) and supports, in- school suspension and/or
Restorative Justice Practices. Knowledge of de-escalation
techniques, trauma-informed practices and behavior management
strategies is a plus. Command respect by example in appearance,
manners, behavior and language. 10. Valid Michigan Driver---s
License. Incumbent must also have reliable means of transportation
to travel to each campus and various locations outside of the
office. 11. Must possess and provide a valid Michigan Driver's
License. Incumbent must also have reliable transportation PHYSICAL
REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are
representative of those that must be met by an employee to
successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While
performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently
required to walk, stand, sit and talk or hear. The employee must
occasionally lift equipment weighing up to fifty pounds for various
events and activities. Some filing is required which would require
the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand
as necessary. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment
characteristics described here are representative of those an
employee encounters while performing the essential functions of
this job. - This job operates in a normal school environment with a
noise level, which is at times, moderately loud with little
discomfort due to noise, dirt, dust and the like. This role
routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones,
