Pathology Assistant Location: Detroit, MI Agency: Cynet Health Pay: $2,702 per week Shift Information: 5 days x 8 hours Contract Duration: 13 Weeks Start Date: ASAP About the Position Job Title: Pathologist's Assistant Profession: Pathologist's Assistant Specialty: - Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: M-F Hours per Shift: 8.5 Experience: Minimum 5 years License: Required Certifications: - Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Pathologist's Assistant program - PA (ASCP) Certification Must-Have: - Customer service skills - Personal qualities including self-direction and flexibility - Ability to demonstrate teamwork and initiative - Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills - Willingness to instruct others - Openness to new learning experiences Description: The Pathologist's Assistant provides services in Anatomic pathology as a member of a team under the direction and supervision of a qualified Pathologist. Assists in the preparation and performance of human post-mortem examinations. Assists in the preparation and performance of human surgical specimen examinations. This includes gross description and complete dissection of surgical specimens. Responsible for the accessioning of specimens and ensuring proper identification of specimens. Prepares containers and tissue cassettes. Aids in the resident training and credentialing. Offers technical instruction to residents in accordance with practice guidelines. Assesses the resident's level of competency in handling specimens. Responsible for gross photography of specimens as needed. Oversees the maintenance of files completed by the assigned Pathologist's Assistant. Responsible for tumor procurement for biorepository. Completes documentation and quality assurance indicators. Aids in the quality assurance and quality control plan of the department. Has primary responsibility in specimen identification and quality control. Responsible for inventory of supplies in the frozen section room and surgical pathology lab. Submits orders and stocks supplies. Selects gross tissue and extremities for disposal after reports are finalized. Performs autopsies, including external examinations, evisceration, and tissue submission. Dictates or records all data from gross analytical and microscopic examinations. Assists in other related duties as directed or as time permits.
